The Fighting Irish In a Nutshell

Who are the Fighting Irish? The fierce name has been bestowed upon the Notre Dame football team from the University of Notre Dame located in Notre Dame, Indiana. The team itself is one of the most popular intercollegiate football teams in the United States. Its home is the Notre Dame Stadium that can be found on the university campus.

Though Notre Dame is one of four schools competing as an “Independent” in the NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision level, they also play five games each year against teams in the Atlantic Coast Conference, or ACC.

The exceptionally iconic football program is due mainly in part to its success. With 11 national championships and 13 titles that are NCAA-recognized, it’s very easy to see why the Fighting Irish are the kings they are. If that’s not enough, Notre Dame has seven Heisman Trophy winners. That’s a record they share with only one other team – Ohio State. The ridiculous numbers don’t end there. The Fighting Irish have throughout the years had 132 All-Americans, with 99 consensus and 33 unanimous. They have also produced 51 program participants in the College Football Hall of Fame, and an astounding 13 who are in the NFL Hall of Fame. By the way, these are all-time records.
